ADMISSION FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST), China is co-founded by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Ministry of Education. It is a non-profit subsidiary organization of CAS with 155 permanent staff.

NCNST adopts a system that its director takes full responsibilities under the leadership of a governing board which is the decision-making organization. NCNST established an academic committee which provides academic consultation to the governing board to determine development blueprints of NCNST.

In NCNST, basic and applied studies in nanoscience have been designated as the main regimes of research. Its objective is to build a public technological platform and research base for nanoscience, which is featured with state-of-the-art equipments and is open to both domestic and international colleagues. While endeavoring to provide technological support to the industry development in China, NCNST is also commissioned to contribute to national nanoscience and technology standardization.

The mission of NCNST is to promote forefront basic and applied research in the fields of nanoscience and technology. The priority is given to nanoscience and technology with important application potentials, toward national strategic needs and the fundamental knowledge of nanoscience. The main research focuses of NCNST includes nano-fabrication & nano-device, nano-materials & nano-structures, nano-biotechnology & nano-medicine, nano-structure characterization &measurement. Recently, the main research fields of NCNST are focused on research and applications of nano-composite materials, novel functional photoelectric materials, integrated photonic devices, self-assembly phenomenon in nanomaterials and nanodevices, nano-biological effects research, nanotechnology standards and etc.

In order to fully utilize resources and create efficient collaboration among research institutes and universities in nanoscience research, NCNST is dedicated to establishing a public technology platform that is accessible to participating institutions and beyond. The platform is formed by facilities of NCNST and Coordination Labs. Coordination labs are established with Peking University (PKU), Tsinghua University, Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Institute of Chemistry of CAS, the Medical Center of PKU, and Institute of High Energy Physics of CAS, based on interdisciplinary research interests.

NCNST currently has 112 staff, including 89 research scientists and engineers. There are two fellows of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 10 members of the “one-Hundred persons’ plan”. There are 27 professors, 25 associate professors and senior engineers, 24 visiting fellows。 NCNST has established Ph.D. programs in condensed matter physics and physical chemistry. Currently, there are 120 graduate students. And International students are welcomed to apply for Ph.D. programs in NCNST.
