Hee Chul Lee, president of National NanoFab Center (NNFC), Korea\'s first nanotechnology-related institute launched in March, 2005, has revealed the establishment of the "Korea-China Nanotechnology Research Center" inside NNFC. Lee became the deputy of Korea, while Chun Li Bai, professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, became the deputy of China at the joint research center.
According to Eun-Kyong Choi from the Planning Division of NNFC, the China National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST) was the partner of NNFC. The objectives of the joint center are to exchange information and conduct joint research on nanotechnology, in an effort to create new businesses. Both governments reached a basic agreement on the center\'s establishment during the Korea-China summit of leaders in September 2003, with the agreement seemingly reconfirmed in November 2004.
The joint operation committee consisting of participants from the industry, government and academy is due to be formed in September 2005, with the first meeting slated for the following October. The center intends to hold regular meetings to promote exchange of human resources and technology on a full-scale from 2006.
