Introduction
ChinaNANO2009 (International Conference on Nanoscience and Technology, China 2009) was held on September 1-3, 2009 in Beijing. ChinaNANO2009 was sponsored by National Steering Committee for Nanotechnology and organized by National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, China (NCNST). This is the third conference following ChinaNANO2005 and ChinaNANO2007 held in 2005 and 2007, respectively. Prof.Chunli Bai,Executive Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences served as the chair of the conference. ChinaNANO 2009 was also supported by Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Ministry of Education of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Association for Science and Technology.
ChinaNANO2009 was the largest conference on nanoscience and nanotechnology held in China. Over 1200 participants attended the conference, more than 500 participants came from more than 40 economies. More than 600 full papers and 1100 abstracts were submitted to the conference. 20 posters were bestowed “Best Posters” award by the Academic Committee of the Conference. During the conference, over 30 international nano-related Hi-Tech companies, Instrument manufacturers and publishers participated the exhibition.
Seven well-known scientist,Prof. Horst Hahn (Research Center Karlsruhe), Prof. Paul Weiss (UC Los Angeles),Prof. Akihisa Inoue (Tohoku University), Prof. Flemming Besenbacher (Aarhus University), Prof. Hiroyuki Sakaki (University of Tokyo), Prof. Hongjie Dai (Stanford University) and Prof. Mauro Ferrari (University of Texas Houston) were invited to give plenary presentations in the conference. The plenary speakers delivered fascinating presentations on wide range topics on nanoscience and nanotechnology. 68 leading scientists gave invited presentations in the eight sub-conferences. Totally, more than 300 oral presentations were delivered on the conference. Participants had extensive discussions on the following topics:nano-information materials, nano-energy and environmental materials, nanodevices and sensors, nanomedicine, nanopharmacy and biomedical engineering, nanofabrication and nanometrology, characterization of nanostructures, nano-optics and plasmonics, as well as modeling and simulation of nanostructures.
Prof.Yongxiang Lu (Vice President of the National People’s Congress, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Prof. Xi Chen (Minister of Education of China) and Prof. Yiyu Chen (Director of National Natural Science Foundation of China) sent their congratulation remarks to the conference.
Prof. Qide Han (Vice President of the National People’s Congress, the Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology) and Prof. Jianlin Cao (Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China) attended the opening ceremony and also made remarks.
ChinaNANO2009 not only reflects the present progress of nanotechnology in China, but also scrutinizes in depth the development of nanotechnology as well as its important effect on the economy and society. The success of ChinaNANO2009 will further enhance communications between domestic scientists and their colleagues abroad, promote the international scientific collaboration, as well as accelerate the development of nanotechnology in China.
