From June 30 to July 2, 2026, the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, China (NCNST) and the Federal University of Paraná (Universidade Federal do Paraná, UFPR) successfully held a joint online seminar on nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Founded in 1912, UFPR is Brazil's oldest public university and has notable strengths in engineering and agricultural sciences. In October 2025, a UFPR delegation led by Vice-Rector Prof. Camila Fachin visited NCNST, during which both sides reached a preliminary consensus on deepening collaboration in nanoscience and nanotechnology. This online seminar was organized to build on the outcomes of that visit and translate the shared vision into concrete academic exchanges and cooperation.
The three-day seminar focused on three thematic areas: Photovoltaic Devices; Nanomaterials for Agriculture and Disease Therapy; and Nanomaterials for Renewable Energy and Catalysis. Prof. Xinfeng Liu, Director of the Department of Science and Technology at NCNST, and Prof. Camila Fachin, Vice-Rector of UFPR, delivered opening remarks. In his address, Prof. Liu noted that the three themes of the seminar would serve as key directions for future China-Brazil cooperation. He expressed confidence that by combining China's technological strengths with Brazil's abundant resources and application scenarios, both sides could achieve productive complementary collaboration in green energy, nanomedicine, agricultural technology, and synchrotron radiation applications.
During the seminar, the two sides formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU stipulates that both parties will hold regular academic exchanges, focus on frontier areas in nanoscience and nanotechnology, and continue to deepen practical cooperation in personnel visits, joint research, and collaborative project applications.
