NCNST and Cell Press Co-host Chem 10th Anniversary Symposium: Advanced Catalytic System for Small Molecules

On September 12, 2026, the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, China (NCNST) and Cell Press jointly hosted the “Chem 10th Anniversary Symposium: Advanced Catalytic System for Small Molecules” at NCNST in Beijing. The symposium marked the closing event of the symposium series celebrating the 10th anniversary of Chem. Prof. Zhiyong Tang, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of NCNST, chaired the symposium.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Tang congratulated Chem on its 10th anniversary and recognized the journal's achievements over the past decade in advancing interdisciplinary research across chemistry, materials, energy, environment, and health. He reviewed the long-standing collaboration between NCNST, Cell Press, and Chem, noting that small-molecule catalysis is one of the central scientific questions in energy and environmental research, and that the precise construction and characterization of nanomaterials underpin the rational design of catalysts. Dr. Robert Eagling, Publishing Director of Cell Press and founding Editor-in-Chief of Chem, delivered remarks reflecting on the journal’s founding journey and vision, and expressed his gratitude to the Chinese research community for a decade of support.

Ten invited speakers presented their latest research at the symposium. Their talks covered catalyst precision design, multi-technique in situ structural characterization, and new catalytic systems and mechanisms for small-molecule conversion. Dr. Vjekoslav Dekaris, Editor-in-Chief of Chem, introduced publishing in Chem and Cell Press journals. The Cell Press editorial team attended the symposium and exchanged views with participants on journal scopes and manuscript preparation.

The symposium provided a high-level international platform for researchers in nanoscience and catalytic chemistry, and further strengthened the partnership between NCNST and Cell Press.
