On October 12, 2026, Professor Bengt Fadeel from Karolinska Institutet, Member of Academia Europaea, and Distinguished Scientist of President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, China (NCNST), where he delivered an academic lecture titled "Nano-Bio-Interactions: Does it Matter How Cells Die".

In the lecture, Prof. Fadeel shared his team's systematic research achievements over the years, focusing on the mechanisms of nano-bio interface interactions and the significance of cell death modalities in the safety assessment of materials. The lecture was warmly received, and the attending faculty and students held in-depth discussions with Prof. Fadeel.

Following the lecture, Prof. Yuliang Zhao, Member of CAS, and Prof. Xing-Jie Liang jointly presented Prof. Fadeel with the PIFI Distinguished Scientist certificate.

Prof. Fadeel currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Institute of Environmental Medicine at Karolinska Institutet and is a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (United States). His research focuses on the interactions of engineered nanomaterials and other advanced materials with biological systems, particularly the immune system. He is one of the most influential scholars in the fields of nanosafety and nanotoxicology.
