Abstract:

Vibrational optical activity (VOA) is comprised principally of infrared vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and vibrational Raman optical activity (ROA). After four decades of academic development and more than two decade of commercial availability of instrumentation and computation software, the field of VOA has amassed an impressive body of research across virtually all fields of chemistry and all classes of chiral molecules, in both academic and industrial settings. The principal application of VCD is the determination of absolute configuration and solution conformations in small organic molecules. as well as conformations of biological molecules. ROA most applications involve the conformation of biological molecules in solution. Recent advances in ROA involve the measurement of all four forms of ROA, (ICP, SCP, DCPI and DCPII) and the use of resonance ROA (RROA) in biological molecules with resonant chromophores to explore local chirality in this important class of molecules.Other recent applications of ROA will be discussed.
