White Paper on China Nanotechnology Industry Released at Beijing Forum, Revealing Global Leadership

BEIJING, Aug. 31, 2025 - The White Paper on China Nanotechnology Industry (2025) was released today at the Nanotechnology Industry Forum in Beijing, which is affiliated with the ongoing 10th International Conference on Nanoscience and Technology, China (ChinaNANO 2025), presenting key metrics that underscore China's leading position in the global nanotechnology landscape.

According to the white paper, China holds 464,000 of the world's 1.078 million authorized nanotechnology patents, representing 43% of the global total and exceeding the combined patent numbers of the United States, Japan, and South Korea. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) leads global patent holders with 23,400 patents.

Industry projections indicate the global nanotechnology market will reach $1.5 trillion by year-end, maintaining a 17% compound annual growth rate since 2018. China's patent transfer and licensing rate has now surpassed 8%, indicating accelerated commercialization of research outcomes.

The report also documents substantial industrial growth within China, counting over 34,500 nanotechnology enterprises which includes 739 listed companies and involves approximately 9.92 million professionals of employment. Regional innovation clusters have emerged across Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Suzhou in semiconductors, while Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou lead in biomedical applications.

The white paper unveils the development and future trends of the nanotechnology industries, highlighting China's transition from following to leading in multiple nanotechnology sectors. The industry forum featured presentations from twelve industry leaders who shared technological advances and entrepreneurial experiences.

Held as part of the ChinaNANO 2025, the Nanotechnology Industry Forum showcased nanotechnology clusters from northern, eastern, southern, and central-western China, collectively representing massive industrial output value and demonstrating vibrant regional collaboration networks.
